"Blasph for me, Blash for you, Blasph for everybody"

The new anti-Blasphemy law came into effect yesterday. A person can be fined €25,000 if it is proven that they were Blasphemous with intent to cause offense. Even though Freedom of Speech is constitutional it must be imperative to protect outdated and dangerous beliefs. It's depressing, though the Atheist Ireland website has published 25 atheist quotes, though for some reason the website isn't working for me. I cannot be the only one who finds that in the second decade of the second millennium people are still doing things such as this?

"The death of Dogma is the birth of Morality" Immanuel Kant

"Know then thyself, presume not God to scan
The proper study of mankind is man" Alexander Pope

  1. People who believe in God are idiots....it is plan that he doesn't exist. Stephen Fry says so and so it must be true....is that Blasphemous?

  2. Wouldn't call all believers idiots, personally, people are entitled to their own opinions, I just find it abhorrent that a "modern" government, anywhere, would use legislation to force people to believe in something or censor them. Freedom of speech is important and so is the freedom to be offended and the freedom to defend your beliefs - in a respectful manner. Not shooting someone or fining them 25k.

  3. Nah, they are idiots. Also what of the consequences for performers. Dara O'brien for example is a stout athiest....he'll be bancrupt or wont ever be able to come to Ireland again.
OH THE PANIC. OH THE FEAR....Lets Loot!

  4. I think it has to offend a significant amount of people who are offended enough to report it to the Gardi who think it is worthwhile enough to investigate and then the courts who find it worthy to prosecute. Very few people, if any, will be prosecuted for this. The reasoning was that due to immigration during the last ten years the catholic church needs defending. Yeah, immigration and not INSTITUTIONAL PEADOPHILIA AND CORRUPTION

  5. The catholic church....unfortunatley is well equipped to defend itself....without the law.
God Spare us from these primative times. Actually, do monkeys believe in God?? Discuss...

  6. I once saw a programme that showed Monkeys dancing whenever it rained and the show hypothosised that they might. But the probably don't. Never noticed that Primitive is close to Primate (of all Ireland) so maybe the See want to stay behind.

  8. as close as West Ham is to Ham sandwhich. Ham is pretty close to Ham sandwhich. Once could argue that it is THE MAIN INGREIDENT!

  9. BREAD IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT. Idiot child..."Jesus, Mary and Sweet Holy Jebus" what will I do with you?

Anyway, why do they need to make it fucking illegal. "Though Shalt not take the Lords name in vain" or Blaspheme is one of those commandemnt thingys that command you can't do stuff like steal and things!
The Catholic church....firm in their own beliefs in a religion created to divide, rule and pretty much conquer earth, should be content in the "knowledge" that the Blasphemous will be destined to spend an eternity in Purgatory....Cirlce Six for the Heretics I do believe.
What more defence could they possibly need when they apparently have God and his wrath on thier side. STUPID PEOPLE AND STUPID IRISH LAW!

  10. Oh wait I got that wrong, Purgatory is not one of the seven cirlces of hell. Thats the place where the people who were placed on Earth by the Lord God before Jebus was born and don't get cleared of sin from Jebus' crucifiction (line on the left one cross each) so they go there. Praise the good Lord, Holy Father, Hallalejelly

  11. No the bread makes it a sandwhich, the ham makes it a ham sandwhich. that would be like saying pastry was the main ingredient in chicken pie when every one knows it is chicken

  12. Without the bread, it would just be "HAM"!!
Anyway, back to topic of discussion...some quotes for your perusal/approval

"Heretics are not to be disputed with, but to be condemned unheard, and whilst they perish by fire, the faithful ought to pursue the evil to its source, and bathe their heads in the blood of the Catholic bishops, and of the Pope, who is the devil in disguise" - Martin Luther

"A virtuous heretic shall be saved before a wicked Christian" - Benjamin Franklin

"Recalling some of the most spectacular horrors of history -- the burning of heretics and witches at the stake, the wholesale massacre of "heathens," and other no less repulsive manifestations of Christian civilization in Europe and elsewhere -- modern man is filled with pride in the "progress" accomplished, in one line at least, since the end of the dark ages of religious fanaticism" - Savitri Devi
